Dublin, Ireland 10/14/2011

October 15, 2011

So, today we awakened from our jet lag, went downstairs to have a hot Irish breakfast (which can be weird….we had cooked tomatos for breaky), and then we went on the Dublin “Hop On/Hop Off” tour bus. And when they say “Hop On” they mean it! Tina and I nearly face planted as the driver was trying to kill us, I suspect…..

Here are some of the things we saw:

(We have no idea what the significanc of a tall building with huge letters spelling out “Heinik..uh, Heineki…….” well, you can see it in the picture. Because I thought Hei…..that beer was German!)

(This building with the green roof is The Clarence Hotel which is famed for being owned by the rock band, U2. They told us that the bar is often filled with the “rich and famous” which is code for “the drinks are ten times more expensive than your average pub and since a drink in your average pub runs between 7 to 15 American dollars it’s too rich for you”)

Then we “hopped off” at the Dublin castle, a 12th century Anglo-Norman (that’s Viking to you and me, and not the Minnesota kind) castle tower that is all that is remaining of the original castle. It has since been added on to with 18th century architecture that looks like this:

(I turned to AJ when we saw this and said, “And over here is where the Nazi’s gathered for the movie ‘Sound of Music”! It got a laugh, I’m not gonna lie.)

And then we made Tina go into one of the gatehouses:

We really try not to stand out, but for some reason the locals just know we’re tourists……

(It’s sssooooooo embarrassing being with Tina and AJ! Hee hee!!)

Then we scooted over to Dublinia which is the exhibition of the Viking history of Dublin (actually Dublin was founded by Vikings!). it was really interesting and nearly right away AJ met a guy:

Then she got arrested and thrown in jail (with some poor gal who didn’t look near as happy about it):

Then, we went to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!

Ok….I’m kidding. I think, THINK this is Christ Church Cathedral. I say “think” because there is a church on every street corner here. And except for Christ Church they are all named Saint (insert Saint’s name here). Here’s another:

More pictures tomorrow! Goodnight from Dublin!

    • AJ says: I don’t know what you’re talking about, now I must go put on my finest frilly skirt and go pick heather in the glen. with Michael!! (Seriously, Mammy????)
